eNews – Term 4, Week 5. Reminder Teacher Only Day on Monday 13th Nov.

10.11.2023

From the Principal

A BIG THANK YOU……

I want to start today’s eNews piece with a HUGE thank you to our caretaker extraordinaire Mr Beehre. This man is really a jack of all trades! From brewing the coffee for staff in the morning to keeping our grounds in an impeccable state Mr Beehre continues to support us all and improve our wonderful school.

So what’s he done recently? This………

Mr Beehre is in the process of upgrading our signage around the school and it looks amazing! Our school vision, whakatauki and values are front and centre for all to embrace. Thank you Mr Beehre.

HUNUA CULTURAL FESTIVAL

Next Friday (17th November) we will host 400+ local learners for the Hunua Cultural Festival. Due to the number visiting, we are having to manage space. Alfriston School whānau are able to watch our performances between 10.20am – 10.40am.

We do however need volunteers to help sell food and drink items on the day, so here’s a way to be involved throughout the day 🙂

Please note that Kindo Sushi orders will be on a Thursday for his week only

If you are available between 9.00am and 1.00pm on Friday 17th November please email Mrs Galvin (cgalvin@alfriston.school.nz).

Today we are sending home a paper plate with the eldest or only learners – if you are able to provide a plate of goodies (baking) for our bake sale we would be extremely grateful. This is not compulsory however the funds raised will go towards new equipment (eg: outdoor reading space and mud kitchen) for our learners.

ATHLETICS HELPERS

We had a small but mighty (and fun) group of helpers at the Year 4-8 Athletics Day last week and I want to say a massive thank you from all of us. Running these events takes a lot of time and effort and we couldn’t have done it without you!

All learners had a great day so thank you, thank you, thank you!

Planning for 2024

While we are busy enjoying the End of Year activities and learning, we too are planning for 2024.

At the end of this year, we will be farewelling a few teachers.

Firstly, we will say goodbye to Mr Wallis. Mr Wallis has been at Alfriston School for 3 years and in that time many learners have enjoyed his energetic, fun personality and the engaging learning programmes he provides. Mr Wallis has been the Whānau Leader of Whanaungatanga Team and the team in Year 4-6 have loved and appreciated his leadership style. Mr Wallis is returning to Dunedin in time for his eldest son Jordan to start school at 5 and we wish the Wallis whānau all the very best. We will miss Mr Wallis’s gentle, positive presence around the school.

Secondly, we will farewell Mrs Jambhulkar. Mrs Jambhulkar joined us at the beginning of this year and has been part of the Kotahitanga Team. Mrs Jambhulkar has embraced the Alfriston School positive, learning focussed culture and guided Room 11 on their learning journey. We thank Mrs Jambhulkar for being willing to get involved (eg staff swimming race) and for all her efforts this year. We wish her all the very best with her future teaching career.
